Sarina and her man planned a super fun night of short ribs and loud pop songs. There aren’t that many photos but that’s because I was having too good of a time.

Eat clean, snack clean! Carrots, Persian cucumbers, Kalamata olives, English cucumbers, rasberries, sheep’s milk cheese (way easier to digest than cows milk cheese), rosemary sea salt AND black pepper @simplemills crackers (ILYSM) and @tessemaes ranch dressing for dipping (paleo and whole30). Take away the cheese it’s paleo, take away the crackers too it’s whole30!

My idea of a life hack: OVEN BACON. My future mother in law taught me this technique years ago and I will never go back to stove top frying again! Just line baking sheet and pop in the oven at 375 for 30 minutes (give or take, depending on your oven and bacon) and you’ll have a whole pack of perfectly crispy bacon! No uneven cooking, oil splattered stove tops, burns or babysitting. Worth turning on your oven even in this heat! You’re welcome.

The best weddings are when the bride and groom are truly madly deeply in love. This was one of those weddings.

Been craving all the veggies so made us some plant based Buddha bowls. There’s lots of good stuff in here: baked Japanese sweet potato fries, roasted lemony cauliflower, charred zucchini, sautéed broccolini with crushed garlic, steamed kale, ginger cumin carrot fries, grated raw golden beets, pickled shallots, fresh dill and parsley all topped with fresh squeezed lemon juice, garlic tahini sauce and black sesame seeds. So good and so satisfying. No real recipe but I made all the whole thing in my stories! #meatlessmonday

Made a paleo version of my favorite sambal chicken skewers from @bonappetitmag . Marinated by me and grilled to perfection by @killacalio! Sweet but super spicy in the very best way 🌶 🌶 🌶 Here’s what you need: 1 1/2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into 2 inch shish kabab sized pieces 1/2 cup coconut sugar 1/2 cup unseasoned rice wine vinegar 1/2 sugar free chili sauce (I used Union Brand from @wholefoods) 1/4 sugar free fish sauce (like @Redboatfishsauce) 8 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for at least an hour 1. Mix together coconut sugar, vinegar, chili sauce and fish sauce. 2. Set aside 1/3 of marinade, and add chicken to the other 2/3. Cover and let marinate in the fridge for one hour. 3. Take marinated chicken and arrange on skewers, about four pieces per skewer. 4. Pour reserved 1/3 marinated into a small sauté pan, bring to a boil then lower heat and reduce. About 7 minutes. 4. Cook skewers on hot grill, brush basting with reduced sauce while the chicken cooks. Continue until fully cooked and lightly charred, about 8-10 minutes I suggest eating with cauliflower rice and a cooling Asian Slaw

A year ago I hardly ever showered. Wore the same four outfits on repeat. Slept in the desert without air conditioning. Made extravagant meals on our two burner stove. Was obsessed with finding free places to camp. Would travel hours for a good hot spring. Was perpetually tan. And got to watch the sunset every night #vangirlsrule

If you’re not grilling at least once a week, you’re doing summer wrong

Haven’t been stitching much lately so thought if I posted an old pic maybe it would inspire me to start a new project? Here’s a tank with our van on it I stitched for @killacalio this past Christmas #partygirlgoods

I’ve been sad lately and when I’m sad I crave all the comfort foods. Making tomato sauce is one of my most comforting rituals in the kitchen. Not only do I adore Bolognese, but it’s a recipe I don’t need to look up, one that I’ve learned a feel for over the years from my mother and the cooks at my family’s Italian restaurant. I don’t eat many tomatoes any more (they’re hella inflammatory) but every now and then we all deserve to treat ourselves. And if I’m going to spend hours making sauce you best believe I won’t be disrespecting it with chickpea or zucchini noodles. No, a good Bolognese deserves a well made semolina pasta (not pictured) and crusty bread for dipping. Here’s the recipe, do what you will with it, it’s technically #whole30 and #paleo but who cares it’s sauce. Here’s what you need: 1 large onion 3 small carrots 3 celery ribs 6 cloves garlic, minced (I don’t mess around, you can use less) 1 lbs ground beef 1 28oz can crushed tomatoes *always use ITALIAN canned tomatoes. When the ingredients are this simple you can’t skimp on quality 1 28oz can diced or whole tomatoes, if whole empty can in bowl and crush by hand. 2 cups broth (paleo/whole30) or wine and/or milk (not compliant) Olive oil Salt and pepper *Stick of grass fed butter, optional 1. Roughly chop carrots, onion and celery. Pulse in food processor till veggies are finely minced. 2. In a heavy bottom pan, heat about a tablespoon of olive oil on medium high and brown meat. When just done remove for pot and set aside. 3. Add minced carrot, onion, celery mixture to pot and sauté for ten minutes 4. Add minced garlic and cook 2-3 minutes until the aroma fills your kitchen 5. Add beef back in 6. Add one cup liquid and cook down 7. Add canned tomatoes and stir till all ingredients are combined 8. Add about another cup of liquid, bring to a boil then turn down to a simmer. Cook for at least 1 1/2 hours but 3 would be better. *Optional, add 1 stick if grass fed butter right before serving and I guarantee this is the best Bolognese you’ll ever make Recipe makes enough for 6-8 people. It’s a lot of sauce. #isabellagambutorecipe
